For most people having a heater that will work at the flick of a switch is very important when the cold winter months kick in. There are a few different types of heater which you can use for this purpose and some have more benefits than others. It used to be that stand alone gas or electric heaters were the heaters of choice for most people but nowadays many people prefer oil heaters. Oil heaters offer many benefits that other heaters simply do not.

Night time use of electric heaters is a major safety concern which puts many people off. They can cause an excess amount of worry as they have been known to short circuit and cause fires. It would be inadvisable to use these heaters at night because of this reason. Electric heaters also consume a lot of electricity making them very energy inefficient. Gas heaters are also unsafe for night heating due to the fact that they have an open flame and there is a risk that gas could run out.

Oil heaters on the other hand are less likely to cause electrical fires as they only use a quarter of the amount of electricity that an electric heater would. This is because an oil heater works by slowly heating the oil inside the heater and once the desired temperature has been reached the heater will switch off and only come back on when the temperature in the room drops again. There is usually an auto shut off feature with many oil heaters which would work in the event that over heating occurs or if the heater is accidentally knocked over.

With oil heaters the air does not dry out or become stuffy. This means that breathing at night is much better. You can also control the temperature of the heater. This allows you to use the heater to really heat a room or to just take the chill off. Because of the energy efficiency of oil heaters you may find that your heating bills are reduced.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Fuel such as electricity and gas show no signs of coming down in price. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of cheap heating oil ensuring they can always heat their home in winter.
